on having big sister space in the baby's room

I shared Ellie's nursery last week, and I love this little wall here, with the table and chairs and bookshelves.  When Brigette was tiny, Vivi loved to be right beside me all the time, when I was feeding Brigette or rocking her.  I thought this time around, it would be a good idea to consider where the big sisters would want to be.  Of course, I can feed Ellie anywhere, but the super comfy glider is in her room, and our house isn't that large, so I like hanging out in the nursery for her feedings.

With that in mind, I tried to put together a little dedicated space for them.  And this time around has been no different; they love to be around while Ellie is being fed.  Having this little table and chairs along with a few toys and books has given them a little space to play and has also (somewhat) kept them from dragging lots of little piles of toys into her room, which is what they usually do.  I also put this little tea set in there, and told them it has to stay in Ellie's room, so that also makes it extra special.

So far, my strategy seems to be working.  It's not that they couldn't bring toys in or play elsewhere, but I've learned from experience that being ready for the inevitability that they will want to be there makes feedings much easier.  While I have become an expert on feeding Ellie while walking around or one handed, it's so much better when I can sit down and relax while I'm doing it!

And how sweet are these chairs?

By the way, have you read that Dada book?  It's hilarious, and I think it's going to be my new go-to to include with baby shower gifts.  The girls think it's so funny, too, and love reading it to Ellie.

So, that has been my strategy.  Have you found that your older siblings prefer to be right by your side while you feed baby?
